Before practicing law, Thad was a high school science teacher and takes great pride in his previous career. After entering the practice of law in 1988, he served as a staff attorney for the South Carolina Supreme Court, where he learned the importance of attention to detail in all litigation. He then served as an assistant solicitor for the 11th Judicial Circuit.
For nearly 30 years, Thad combined the rigors of a busy law practice with service to our country through his service in the South Carolina Air National Guard and retired as Brigadier General. As a young officer, he served in Operation Desert Storm as a Readiness Officer supporting America’s mission in that conflict.
Brigadier General Thad L. Myers retired as the Assistant Adjutant General for the South Carolina Air National Guard (ATAG-Air). As the ATAG-Air, he was responsible for providing strategic guidance and leadership to the South Carolina Air National Guard. General Myers entered the Air National Guard as an Airman Basic after graduating from Air Force basic training in 1986 as an honor graduate. In competition with his active duty counterparts, he further distinguished himself in May of 1986 as an honor graduate of the Integrated Avionics Phase I Course at Lowery Air Force Base, Colorado. He returned to McEntire Air National Guard Station after completion of technical training where as an avionics technician he serviced the unit’s F-16 flight control systems. In 1988 he was appointed as a noncommissioned officer and promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
General Myers received his commission through the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science after graduating as a Distinguished Graduate in 1989. He served as the Base Disaster Preparedness and Readiness Officer from 1989 until 1996. In 1990, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He later served in the 169th Fighter Wing base legal office as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate and Staff Judge Advocate from 1996 until October 2007 when he assumed his duties as the JFHQS Staff Judge Advocate. As an additional duty, General Myers served as the ANG liaison for the 9th Air Force from 2006 until 2010. In March 2012, he was appointed as the first Air National Guard Judge Advocate to serve as the State Judge Advocate for the South Carolina National Guard. General Myers assumed his duties as ATAG-Air on February 1, 2014.
